Relieved Gary Anderson confessed to some finishing-line jitters before booking his place in Sunday’s shootout at the European Darts Trophy.

The two-time World Darts Champion hauled himself back from 3-0 down to lash Luke Woodhouse 6-4 and secure a last 16 tie against home hero Martin Schindler in Gottingen.

"However, despite the strong fightback, Anderson took his time to complete the job with seven missed match darts before finally dismissing his rival.

Despite winning 30 PDC ranking titles with the latest coming on Monday when successful in the seventh Players Championship event, the Scot admitted he felt edgy towards the finale and said: “I was so far in front and I couldn’t finish it.

"That’s just down to, I don’t know, a bit of nerves and that. There’s nerves every tournament now, but hey, we’ll take it.”

Schindler set-up the clash with an emphatic win 6-1 over Jonny Clayton and Anderson joins ecstatic Cameron Menzies in the last 16 after his countryman confessed he didn’t want to upset Damon Heta having admitted to have stolen a priceless success.

The Ayrshire ace was 5-3 down and survived two match darts before sealing the deal to surge into the final-day in Germany.

Menzies was thrilled at the triumph, but was keen to keep the celebrations in check having felt he’d burgled the win off a shattered rival.

He said: “I’m sure Damo will be very disappointed. I’m trying not to say anything to upset him and stuff, but I stole that. And when you win something you steal, it kind of feels more.

“Damo’s a great guy, great player and it’s a good result for me, but a bad result for him and I kind of want to leave it as that because he’ll be gutted and I don’t want to upset him.

At 5-3 down, it was not a great game. The two of us were good and bad, it was up and down quite a lot.

"It wasn’t great, it was a battle. As you can see from my emotions, I’m ecstatic.

"I don’t want to overdo it too much, but I’m lucky, I’m grateful and I’m happy.”

Menzies will meet Mike De Decker after the Belgian defeated Peter Wright 6-4 in a high-quality last 32 contest.

The World Grand Prix champ has never beaten the Scot in four attempts and said: “We all know Cammy is a good player with a smooth throw, but it’s on the day.”

World No.1 Luke Humphries progressed with success over Boris Krcmar, while Michael Van Gerwen fought back to defeat German talent Niko Springer in a last-leg decider.
